Jack Karsten is a Graduate Research Assistant at the George Washington Institute for Public Policy, working with the Program on Skills, Credentials and Workforce Policy. Jack is currently earning a PhD in Public Policy and Administration from the Trachtenberg School at George Washington University. His current research focuses on how government agencies collect data on non-degree credentials and how this data can inform labor policy. Previously, Jack worked as the Managing Director of the Innovation Frontier Project at the Progressive Policy Institute and as a Senior Research Analyst in the Center for Technology Innovation at the Brookings Institution. In these roles, Jack supported research, edited reports, and published blog posts about emerging technology and its impacts on public policy. At Brookings, he co-authored reports on telehealth policy, investment in driverless cars, and public perceptions of emerging technology. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Boston College and M.A. in International Science and Technology Policy from the Elliott School of International Affairs at GW. He also authored an article on internet governance for the Elliott School’s International Affairs Review. Through his research and writing, Jack wants to help equip the American workforce with the necessary skills to take advantage of new technologies.
