Presentation to DePaul University Faculty Retreat

On September 25th, Associate Research Professor Kyle Albert presented to faculty and academic leadership at DePaul University in Chicago about the skills-driven future of higher education. He spoke about the history of efforts to measure skills in the United States, which have often relied on imperfect proxies for skill such as occupational titles and fields of study. He then described the opportunities for research associated with the emergence of AI large language models, which can identify skills embedded in job postings and course syllabi at scale. Dr. Albert also described opportunities to engage with GWIPP's LAiSER project, which gives universities an open-source alternative to commercial skill mapping programs.
